The reason you have your job; the reason your kids are on that baseball team and the reason you were born into your family are all the same. God wants to use you for His great purpose of showing His love to your Oikos.

What's an oikos?

You’re probably going to hear the word “oikos” a lot around here. It’s a Greek word that Jesus used to describe the 8 to 15 people who we share life with most closely. We all have an oikos. In fact, you were probably introduced to Jesus by someone in your oikos, someone who cares about you and wants you to enjoy the full life that only Jesus can give us. Picture your life as taking place in a theater. One that’s filled with a lot of people. Some are sitting in the balcony. Others in the mezzanine. Still others are sitting down in the orchestra section. To some degree, they may all be able to see the way you behave or listen to what you say, but it’s those eight to fifteen people in the front row who have the best seats in the house to do both. The Greeks called that inner circle of “extended family” their oikos. 95% of all believers give credit to someone in their oikos for leading them to Jesus. So, it’s a big deal.

The Oikos Principle

The oikos principle is not a ministry program. It’s not an event. It’s not a church emphasis. Oikos is like a worldview, a set of lenses through which you can more easily and efficiently plan your day, organize your life, or even strategically build a local church.

You’ll discover that oikos (a Greek word) is embedded in the New Testament. Effectively leveraging the oikos principle can provide you with a heightened sense of purpose and fulfillment and give you the confidence you lack to make an impact for God’s Kingdom in your world!

One of the most important next steps we can take is what we call “B.L.E.S.S. Your Oikos.”

Write down the names of 8-15 people on your Oikos card who do not know Jesus, or who are not currently walking with Jesus and B.L.E.S.S. them.

Eat with them

Serve them

The first stop on the Summit Next Steps Pathway is all about leading yourself. Our goal is to inspire and equip you to grasp who God made you to be, what God made you to do, and which community of faith God is calling you to grow in a healthy relationship with. These are all critical components of living with Jesus, for Jesus, and on mission with Jesus.

Step 1: Is Summit Church Perfect for You?

The purpose of Step 1 is to orient you to all things Summit Church so that you can discern if this is the family of faith that God has for you.

Step 1 happens on the first Sunday of each month, at 11:30 a.m. upstairs in the Next Steps Room. The class ends at noon. Snacks and water are provided. Childcare is also provided however, your kids are welcome to come in and sit with you if you prefer. You do not need to sign up.

Step 2: Discover How God SHAPED

The purpose of Step 2 is to guide you to discover God’s unique purpose for your life, how He has uniquely shaped you for that purpose, and how to live the life He had in mind when He made you.

Step 2 happens on the second Sunday of each month, at 11:30 a.m. upstairs in the Next Steps Room. The class ends at noon. Snacks and water are provided. Childcare is also provided however, your kids are welcome to come in and sit with you if you prefer. You do not need to sign up.

Step 3: How to Have a Healthy Relationship with Church

The purpose of Step 3 is to teach you how to connect in life giving community with other believers, continually grow in your faith, remain healthy, and find your place in service to others. People who complete Step 3 are eligible to be a Level One Volunteer.

Step 3 happens on the third Sunday of each month, at 11:30 a.m. upstairs in the Next Steps Room. The class ends at noon. Snacks and water are provided. Childcare is also provided however, your kids are welcome to come in and sit with you if you prefer. You do not need to sign up.

Level Two of the Pathway is designed to help you learn how to influence, serve, and bless the people God has supernaturally and strategically placed in your life. This influence occurs both organically and intentionally in both how you live and where you lead.

Step 4: How to Make an Impact in Your Oikos

The purpose of Step 4 is to equip you with strategies and tools for making an impact where you live, work, study, and play. You will discover the ease and power of living on mission as you join in on what God is already doing in your Oikos.

Step 5: Intro to Christian Leadership

The purpose of Step 5 is to orient our hearts and minds to a Biblical view of Leadership, as taught and modeled by Jesus Christ. You will learn the nature and wisdom of Kingdom Leadership in the way of Jesus. People who complete Step 5 are released to serve in roles of spiritual influence.

Step 6: Facilitating Communities for Connection and Growth

The purpose of Step 6 is to equip you to effectively facilitate community within the various groups of people in your life. These principles equip you in your family, community group, work groups, and anywhere you find yourself with a focused community of people. People who complete Step 6 are eligible to Lead Ministry Teams and Community Groups.

Some people will sense either a desire or a calling to coach leaders. Coaches serve five to seven leaders and provide support, coaching, encouragement, and resources to those leaders, so they can increase the impact of their leadership. Coaches partner with the Holy Spirit in the life of a leader to ignite, steward, and release all that God has put in them more effectively.

Step 7: Leading High-Performance Teams

At Summit Church, we believe the greatest ministry impact occurs through teams. The purpose of Step 7 is to equip coaches to help their leaders to build, lead, equip, and mobilize High-Performance Teams.

Step 8: The Coaching Relationship

The purpose of Step 8 is to equip coaches with the skills, tools, and resources to facilitate outstanding coaching in the life of their leaders. You will learn the basic skills of effective coaching and how to utilize the tools and platforms provided for the coaching relationship.

Step 9: Coaching Excellence

The purpose of Step 9 is to deepen your Coaching toolbox, strengthen your Coaching muscles, and help your leaders to grow in ways they have never dreamed possible.

Level Four Leaders bring leadership excellence to whole departments of a ministry or organization. They accomplish this by casting vision for their teams, removing obstacles to departmental success, stewarding the financial resources of the department, and discerning the unique opportunities and essential steps their department must take to move forward.

Step 10: Culture of Leadership & Responsibility

The purpose of Step 10 is to equip department leaders with the cultural and organizational framework for the highest level of servant leadership, personal responsibility, and powerful teams.

Step 11: Leadership Pipeline

The purpose of Step 11 is to equip Department Leaders to design, recruit, equip, and release an endless supply of leaders through the construction and operation of a formal Leadership Pipeline. Identifying, equipping, and releasing new leaders is one of the greatest joys of leadership!

Step 12: Making Room for Young Eagles to Soar

The purpose of Step 12 is to equip Department Leaders to effectively lead an inter- generational community of leaders. You will understand generational challenges, leverage generational strengths, and equip the next generation of leaders together.

Some people will find themselves gifted and/or called to lead entire organizations. These might be existing churches, church plants, missions organizations, non-profits, and even for-profit organizations. Level five of the Next Steps Pathway is designed to prepare those people effectively for this level of leadership.

Step 13: Organizational Leadership

The purpose of Step 13 is to understand the basics of Organizational Leadership and to be equipped to enter service at this level of leadership with the training necessary for success.

Step 14: Strategic Planning

The purpose of Step 14 is to equip Organizational Leaders to facilitate the steps of Strategic Planning. This is useful for projects, seasons of the year, release of new initiatives, and annual planning for operation and finance.

Step 15: Organizational Finance

The purpose of Step 15 is to equip Organizational Leaders with the Financial acumen to analyze, plan, and effectively lead the financial aspects of their organization.

Ministry Partners are those people who commit to the larger purpose of Summit Church and our Vision. These are the partners who will flow in the purposes of the Church even when they don't get their personal preferences met.

Ministry Partners have a prominent voice in selecting a new Lead Pastor and speaking into the future of Summit Church. All Elders are selected from among this group.

Ministry Partners make five commitments:

1. To serve the purpose of the church over their personal preferences.

2. To attend faithfully on Sundays.

3. To be a vibrant part of a Community Group.

4. To give the tithe to God through Summit Church.

5. To serve the mission of Jesus on or outside of the Summit campus.

Children of elementary school age who want to learn about baptism should speak with one of our family ministries staff members. Our desire is to make sure both the parents and child are comfortable and confident in their understand and readiness for baptism.

If you are a teen or adult who would like to be baptized, we would love to answer any questions you might have and walk you through the process of scheduling your baptism.

*Requests to schedule baptisms must be made at least two weeks before the baptism date.

We return God’s tithe to Him through the local church. Technically, this is not giving, but paying the tithe back to God for all He has provided for us.

“Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.” Proverbs 3:9-10 NIV

An offering is giving over and above the tithe to support the needy among us, expand the mission of the church, or spread the Good News of Jesus around the globe.

“And Godʼs grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostlesʼ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.” Acts 4:33-35 NIV
